The finalists competed in a 2 hour cook-off in the training kitchens at Tower Hamlets College. The cook-off was due to take 2½ hours but the cooking time had to be reduced just before the competition was due to start giving the contestants some added pressure.

The Chairman of the Judges, Lord Fraser of Carmyllie, congratulated all the contestants on the high quality of their cooking and impressed on them how close the judging had been and how difficult it had been to choose a winner. The runners up were Nasrin Akthar, Mostab Ali and Saiful Bari.

The Principal of Tower Hamlets College, Michael Farley, explained "We take catering and hospitality at the college extremely seriously" and went on to say "one day I would like to think that we have former students (or even current students) at Tower Hamlets College putting themselves forward and being judged against the very high standard that's been produced today."

The competition's founder, Tommy Miah, finished off proceedings by saying "The whole idea of the competition is to help chefs to have the opportunity to go on to better things." Kim Barwell will now be able enjoy that opportunity.
